Step Back in Time is a short series of lectures by Dr Pat Murrell in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care. 'The Pursuit of Pleasure - Bury Fair in its Victorian Heydey' is the third in the series.
Lasting several weeks in the autumn and centred on Angel Hill, Bury Fair in the Georgian period was a great annual up-market gathering. It attracted the better sort from far and wide. Using unpublished original research, Pat Murrell reveals its numerous attractions, importance to Bury’s economy and role in the town’s leisure market. Some of its less favourable aspects and ultimate demise will also feature.
Refreshments included in the ticket price. Cakes and biscuits made to recipes of the period.
This event takes place on Thursday 26 September at 8pm, at the United Reformed Church, Whiting Street, Bury St Edmunds.
